Oiva Toikka, a design pioneer, combined his love of nature and blown glass art in his unique series of glass birds.
Birds by Toikka, which was developed in close cooperation with the glassblowers, took flight in 1972 at the Nuutajärvi glass plant. When the series' manufacturing moved to the Iittala Glass Factory in 2014, Toikka kept up his tight collaboration with the group there. Each bird is distinctive in every every detail, making each one a singular work of art. The series represents a rich blend of glassmaking traditions because all pieces are handcrafted and mouthblown.
